NRG HealingRe-energize your mind, body and soul

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel. We do not just have physical bodies; we also have an energy body. Throughout this energy body are 7 major chakras. Each chakra is represented by a different colour, and corresponds to potential physical or emotional issues. When the chakras are all perfectly balanced, we are well and at ease with ourselves. However when the chakras become unbalanced then physical or emotional issues can occur, which may then in time become a dis-ease. Dis-ease is spelt this way as it is meant to mean that your body is not at ease.

Below you will find a brief description of each chakra and what its major function is, as well as typical physical or emotional problems which may manifest when the chakras are unbalanced. The diagram shows where the chakras are situated.

The Base (Root) chakra is the first of the seven chakras. It is associated with the colour red, and is located at the base of your spine. It is associated with security, survival and prosperity. If this chakra is unbalanced:
  • Physically you may have health problems associated with the feet, ankles and knees.
  • Emotionally if people have suffered a trauma as a child or an unstable childhood this would put stress on the base chakra and may manifest as a lack of trust in the world.
The Sacral chakra is located just below the navel and is associated with the colour orange. This chakra helps us to form healthy emotional and sexual relationships. The energy may also manifest in the form of creativity. Dancing and singing are great to help balance this chakra. If this chakra is unbalanced then:
  • Physically it can manifest as dis-ease of the urinary tract and kidneys.
  • Emotionally it can result in the inability to receive love. When it is unblocked we can experience unconditional love.
The Solar Plexus chakra is located in the centre of the lower ribcage and is associated with the colour yellow. It is usually associated with personal power, and enables the flow of energy through the physical body. It is also where we feel fear and anxiety. If this chakra is unbalanced then:
  • Physically you may experience digestive problems. Diabetes is also associated with this chakra.
  • Emotionally it can make you appear unhappy with life or arrogant.
The Heart chakra is located in the centre of the chest, the place where love originates. It is associated with the qualities of passion and devotion. The Heart chakra generates the energy of an all encompassing love, such as the love of creation. If this chakra is unbalanced then:
  • Physically it can manifest as heart disease, high cholesterol, or problems with the circulatory system. Feelings of frustration or anger can be held in your heart area which can be bad for your heart.
  • Emotionally it can manifest as the inability to sustain lasting friendships or relationships.
The Throat chakra is located at the bottom of the neck area. It is associated with the colour blue and influences communication and how we express ourselves. If this chakra is unbalanced then:
  • Physically it can manifest as problems to do with the ears, nose, throat and respiratory problems. When we have a deficiency in this area we become timid, fearful and afraid to speak up. When there is excess we are likely to be loud and talk excessively.
  • Emotionally it may lead to closing down communications with others. Talking about problems can help to remove blockages.
The Brow (Third Eye) chakra is located in the centre of the forehead. It is associated with the colour indigo, and is strongly linked with the mind, particularly with intuition and psychic abilities. We draw on this chakra when we meditate. If this chakra is unbalanced then:
  • Physically it can manifest as migraines or headaches.
  • Emotionally it isn't really linked to any emotions as such. However an imbalance can strongly affect the pineal gland, which can affect our moods and sleep patterns.
The Crown chakra is located at the top of the head and is associated with the colour violet. It connects us to everything that transcends our earthbound state. If this chakra is unbalanced then:
  • Physically it can lead to headaches. A tendency to be obsessive also shows an imbalance in this area.
  • Emotionally, denial of life, obsession and the bottling up of anger are also connected to the crown.
